Those of Te Arawa waka paddle together
The first step toward more liaison in Maori regional
tourism has been taken in the Bay of Plenty.
In what is being seen as a further development
in the evolution of MRTOs, Tauranga Moana Maori
Tourism Inc, Maori in Tourism Rotorua and
the New Zealand Maori Tourism Society have agreed
to establish a working party.
The working party - which will consist of
representatives of the three MRTOs - has been tasked
with assisting the Tauranga and Rotorua groups
to establish memorandum of understanding with their
Regional Tourism Organisations, as has already been
done by the Taupo cluster.
At a hui in Taupo earlier this month, members
of the executives agreed in principle to work toward
appointing one person to represent their three groups
at national level.
In the meantime, the three MRTOs will be going back
to their constituent memberships to discuss the benefits
of working more closely together in future.
